WHAT IS A NATURAL CORK EXPANSION JOINT?
A cork expansion joint is a flexible barrier placed between adjoining sections of flooring—like wood planks or panels. Its primary role is to absorb natural floor movement caused by temperature and moisture fluctuations. This helps prevent cracks or separation and keeps your floors looking smooth and solid.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE A CORK STRIP VS. LIQUID CORK?
Installing a new floor? Go with a natural cork strip. It’s designed to be placed during installation, right at the joints. Liquid cork is better suited for filling gaps or repairs in older floors, especially in tight or awkward corners around pipes or walls.
WHERE CAN YOU INSTALL A CORK EXPANSION JOINT?
These joints work best where two different flooring types meet—for example, tile next to hardwood or laminate transitioning to stone. A cork strip delivers a smooth and clean connection between surfaces, enhancing both function and appearance. Use it with wood, ceramic tile, laminate, or even polished concrete.
DOES NATURAL CORK NEED TO ACCLIMATE?
Yes! It’s recommended that cork sits in the installation room for at least 72 hours. This allows it to adjust to the room's humidity and temperature. Skipping this step may lead to unwanted gaps or cracking due to shrinkage or expansion. Air leaks or trapped moisture can also affect insulation or soundproofing.
HOW DO YOU INSTALL A NATURAL CORK EXPANSION STRIP?
To install, you'll need adhesive, a tape measure, and a sharp utility knife. It’s best to apply the strip once part of the flooring is already laid. Stick it to the surface layer only—avoid bonding it to the subfloor. For a long-lasting and dirt-resistant finish, top it off with a wood-friendly sealant.
Keep the expansion joint between 5 mm and 10 mm wide.
WHAT TYPE OF GLUE SHOULD YOU USE?
You can use standard contact adhesives for wood, but for best results, we suggest specialized cork glue, preferably a hybrid formulation that holds up over time and under stress.
IS CORK A BETTER CHOICE THAN METAL STRIPS?
Metal strips like aluminum or steel are bulkier and can be a hassle to work with—especially for DIYers or large-scale jobs. Cork is lightweight and easy to cut and position, saving you time and effort.
Metal conducts heat and cold, so it may feel uncomfortably hot or cold to the touch. Cork, by contrast, stays temperate and feels soft and warm underfoot.
Steel and aluminum are prone to corrosion in humid or changing environments. Cork naturally resists moisture and won’t rust or degrade, making it a solid long-term option.
HOW DO YOU PREVENT CORK FROM CRUMBLING?
Make sure your installation surface is even, clean, and dry. Any dust, grit, or bumps can compromise the adhesive and cause the cork to break apart. Don’t bend it too much or press excessively—keep things smooth and gentle.
WHAT COLOR IS THE NATURAL CORK STRIP?
Our cork expansion strips are available in their natural brown color, but you’re not stuck with that. If you want to match a specific look, just paint the strip using paint made for cork surfaces.
A natural cork expansion joint isn’t just a practical way to safeguard your flooring—it also brings earthy charm and a touch of refined style into your home. Curious how cork can benefit your interior? Keep reading!

#1 BUILT TO LAST
Cork expansion joints provide a sturdy, efficient solution to bridge gaps between floor sections. Easy to install and highly resilient, cork helps maintain the integrity of your flooring—no need to worry about wear and tear over time.
Its natural moisture resistance and thermal and acoustic insulation help create a quieter, more comfortable home environment—no matter the season.
Because cork is naturally flexible, it adapts to minor shifts in the flooring without cracking. That flexibility keeps your surface smooth and functional year after year.
And thanks to its anti-static nature, cork doesn’t attract dust—making it a smart choice for allergy sufferers and a healthier option for indoor air quality overall.
#2 ELEGANT LOOK & LOW MAINTENANCE
A cork joint between tiles and wood panels adds a clean, polished finish that enhances the space visually. It's a subtle detail that will definitely catch the eye of your guests. Plus, cork trim is a breeze to clean: just wipe it with a damp cloth and you’re good to go.
#3 ENVIRONMENTALLY SMART
Cork is a renewable material that comes from the bark of cork oak trees. What’s great is that harvesting cork doesn’t involve cutting down the trees—the bark is gently removed, allowing the trees to continue thriving. Even better? They can absorb up to 5x more CO2 than non-harvested trees. It’s beautiful and eco-positive!
Each cork product brings a bit of nature into your space. It’s biodegradable, sustainable, and breaks down naturally after use—no harmful chemicals, no environmental burden. Just pure peace of mind for you and your family.
#4 SAFE, NATURAL & TRUSTED
Made entirely from natural material, cork expansion joints are a safe and non-toxic choice for your home. Whether you live a green lifestyle or simply care about wellness, cork fits right in.
Cork is hypoallergenic and completely free from toxic emissions or irritating substances, making it ideal for families with kids or pets. It’s safe, natural, and built for everyday living.
