WHY USE HOLZPROF FIRE RETARDANT ON CORK?
This formula penetrates the cork and helps slow down and minimize burning if fire occurs. Flames spread more gradually, giving you valuable extra time to act.
WHAT MATERIALS CAN BE TREATED WITH HOLZPROF?
It’s effective on wood and cellulose-based materials – including cork. Because it’s water-based, it won’t change the appearance or feel of the surface.
Important: The product only works on absorbent materials. If the cork has been painted, varnished, or sealed with any layer that blocks absorption, the treatment will not work.
WHAT SAFETY STEPS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED?
Always wear protective gloves and safety glasses, and keep the area well-ventilated. When spraying, use a respirator with a P3 filter. This ensures the job is both safe and comfortable. And remember – follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully.
HOW SHOULD THE CORK BE PREPARED?
Make sure the cork is clean, dry, free of grease, and dust-free, with no stains or leftover adhesives.
Note: The cork surface must not be painted, sealed, or coated with anything that would block absorption. Only untreated cork allows proper penetration of the fire retardant.
HOW DO YOU APPLY HOLZPROF TO CORK?
- Apply using a brush, roller, dipping method, or – with the right setup – a vacuum-pressure system. Whichever method you choose, make sure all sides of the cork are treated.
- The recommended moisture content of the cork is around 16%, with a maximum of 18%. Do not treat frozen or icy surfaces.
- HolzProf should be applied in three coats, with 40–60 minutes between each. Total usage should be at least 300 g/m² (270 ml/m²), and for denser woods like Canadian WRC cedar, at least 360 ml/m². The product must penetrate 1.5–3 mm deep to be effective. Recommended application temperature: +50–86°F (minimum +41°F), with humidity below 75%.
- Full fire resistance is achieved after 7 days (under optimal conditions – approx. 68°F and humidity below 75%). During curing, protect cork from direct sun and rain.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE HOLZPROF?
Keep the product in its original container, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Ideal storage temperature is between +41°F and +77°F. Do not allow it to freeze.
Shelf life: 24 months from the production date.
Want to safeguard cork without dealing with complicated solutions? Most fire treatments require mixing, special tools, and long prep work – which makes it tempting to keep putting it off. HolzProf is a ready-to-use fire retardant made for cork – quick to apply, easy to handle, and designed for anyone, no prior experience needed.

#1 STRONGER FIRE PROTECTION
Cork naturally resists flames – instead of burning, it tends to char. But in certain situations, that natural protection isn’t enough, and extra safety is essential.
HolzProf meets EN 13501-1 standards and achieves a B-s1,d0 fire rating. In plain terms: it barely spreads fire, gives off minimal smoke, and produces no burning drips or particles.
#2 HASSLE-FREE APPLICATION
No mixing, no diluting – just open the container and you’re good to go. This makes the process fast and stress-free. Its liquid formula seeps deep into the cork, protecting not just the surface but the layers underneath. That’s the kind of coverage you can’t see, but that really matters.
And the best part? You can do it all yourself. Applying HolzProf is a lot like painting – simple, intuitive, and no special skills required. The only difference: instead of changing the color, you’re boosting fire safety.
#3 WATER-BASED & USER-FRIENDLY
A water-based fire retardant is a real convenience. No harsh chemical smell to deal with, and safer all around. Without toxic fumes, there’s less chance of headaches or breathing irritation.
Another big plus: easy cleanup. Brushes, rollers, or even sprayers rinse clean with regular tap water – no solvents, no complicated cleanup routine.
