Got questions? We’ve got the answers right here!

WHAT EXACTLY IS WAKOL D3540 AND WHERE CAN IT BE USED?

Wakol D-3540 is a water-based contact adhesive. Made with a latex-acrylic blend, it’s completely solvent-free, making it safer to handle and easier to apply.

It’s the perfect solution for installing natural cork – whether it’s flooring (unfinished, veneered, waxed, or pre-finished at the factory), decorative wall panels, or insulating and technical boards.

Important: Wakol D-3540 is intended for indoor applications only.

HOW DOES A CONTACT ADHESIVE DIFFER FROM A REGULAR GLUE?

Regular glue typically goes on one surface, the material gets pressed into place, and you wait for it to dry. A contact adhesive works differently: you need to coat both the cork and the base surface. Once the adhesive dries clear, you press the pieces together firmly for a secure hold.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DRY BEFORE JOINING SURFACES?

  • On absorbent surfaces: around 30–45 minutes.
  • On non-absorbent surfaces or the backside of coverings: about 60–90 minutes.

HOW LONG IS THE OPEN TIME AFTER APPLYING?

  • Generally 2–3 hours under normal conditions.
  • 1–1.5 hours when working with lacquered cork tiles.

These times are based on typical indoor conditions (68°F and 65% relative humidity). They may vary depending on environment.

HOW LONG UNTIL THE ADHESIVE IS FULLY CURED?

Plan for roughly 24 hours for the adhesive to reach full strength. After that, the surface is ready for use or finishing.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO APPLY WAKOL D-3540?

A short-nap velour roller works best. It spreads the adhesive evenly in a thin layer, ensuring a strong and long-lasting bond.

HOW MUCH COVERAGE CAN YOU EXPECT?

For cork installation, average usage is 150–250 g/m². A 2.5 kg bucket covers about 12.5 m² of surface area.

HOW SHOULD THE BASE SURFACE BE PREPARED?

  • The base must be flat, dry, and clean – free of dust, grease, or wax.
  • Any uneven spots should be corrected with a leveling compound.
  • On surfaces like anhydrite, magnesite, or poured asphalt, apply at least a 2 mm leveling layer.
  • Rough plaster on walls should be smoothed before applying adhesive.
  • Start gluing only once the primer is fully dry.

WHAT TEMPERATURES ARE BEST FOR USE?

Apply Wakol D-3540 only when the substrate temperature is above 59°F and the room temperature above 64°F. Standard indoor conditions are ideal.

If the adhesive was stored in a cold place, let it warm up before applying.

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION STEPS?

  1. Mix well before use.
  2. Spread evenly on both the cork backing and the substrate.
  3. Let it dry until the adhesive turns clear.
  4. Press together firmly (a rubber mallet can help).

Tip: Wait at least 24 hours before sealing or finishing natural cork.

CAN CORK BE INSTALLED ON CEILINGS?

Yes, Wakol D-3540 is strong enough to hold cork panels on ceilings. Perfect for decorative or insulating ceiling finishes.

IS IT SAFE TO USE WITH RADIANT FLOOR HEATING?

Yes, it’s fully compatible with underfloor heating systems.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN OFF EXCESS ADHESIVE?

When still fresh, excess glue wipes away easily with water. Once hardened, it’s much tougher to remove – so always clean right away.

WHAT’S THE PROPER WAY TO STORE IT?

Keep the product in its original container, tightly sealed, stored in a cool, dry place. Freezing will permanently damage it.

When stored correctly, it remains effective for up to 12 months from the production date.

DOES WAKOL D-3540 HAVE A SMELL?

It does have a noticeable scent, but since it’s solvent-free and low in emissions, the odor is far less intense than traditional adhesives.

WHAT COLOR DOES IT DRY TO?

After curing, the adhesive dries clear.

Worried your cork might start peeling or slipping just days after installation? Nothing derails a home project faster than panels that won’t stay put and need constant fixing. With Wakol D-3540, you can forget those worries – this proven contact adhesive locks cork securely to the surface. Contractors have trusted it for years because it delivers results that last.

Black text WHY is it worth it?» with cork on the right on a white background.

#1 CONSISTENT, RELIABLE HOLD

From the first roll-on to pressing panels into place, Wakol D-3540 keeps things stress-free. It forms a smooth, solid bond that grips tightly, even when you’re working with large sections. That means no frustrating shifts and no need to keep readjusting panels after the fact.

What sets it apart is that it’s engineered specifically for cork. It doesn’t make the material stiff or distort its shape; instead, it complements cork’s natural properties. The result: cork floors and wall coverings look polished and professional right from the start.

That level of dependability – a secure grip, flawless finish, and long-lasting strength – has made Wakol a go-to choice for professionals and the perfect recommendation for anyone planning a hassle-free remodel.

#2 A SAFE, RESPONSIBLE CHOICE

Wakol is a solvent-free adhesive, which makes it safe for everyday use. It’s been rigorously tested for emissions and meets the strictest European standards – carrying both the EMICODE EC1 PLUS certification and a French VOC emission rating.

In practical terms, this means the release of volatile organic compounds is kept to an absolute minimum. It’s a recognized seal of quality that proves this adhesive is not only safe for your health but also environmentally responsible.

#3 BUILT FOR EVERY TYPE OF CORK

Cork comes in many forms – from natural flooring planks to veneered, waxed, pre-finished options, and even stylish wall tiles. Wakol D-3540 is designed to handle them all. That makes it just as useful for full-scale renovations as it is for small finishing touches, always ensuring a strong and attractive bond.

Its biggest strength lies in its versatility – one adhesive for every type of cork. It’s a smart solution that simplifies the job: no need to stock multiple glues, just rely on Wakol. That way, you know your results will be consistent, sturdy, and built to last.
