WHAT MAKES WAKOL D3540 DIFFERENT, AND WHERE SHOULD YOU USE IT?

Wakol D-3540 is a water-based contact adhesive. Built on a latex-acrylic dispersion, it’s completely solvent-free – making it safer, cleaner, and easier to apply.

It’s purpose-made for bonding all types of cork materials – from floors (natural, veneered, waxed, or prefinished) to decorative wall elements, as well as insulation and technical panels.

Note: Wakol D-3540 is strictly for indoor projects.

HOW IS A CONTACT ADHESIVE DIFFERENT FROM A REGULAR GLUE?

Regular glues work by coating one surface and pressing the material into place. Contact adhesives are different: you need to coat both sides – the cork and the base – and wait until the glue becomes clear before firmly pressing them together.

HOW LONG SHOULD CORK TILE ADHESIVE DRY BEFORE BONDING?

Drying time depends on the substrate:

On porous surfaces – about 30–45 minutes.
On non-porous surfaces or cork backing – around 60–90 minutes.

HOW LONG DOES WAKOL D3540 REMAIN READY TO USE?

The open time is usually:

Roughly 2–3 hours under normal room conditions.
1–1.5 hours when bonding lacquered cork tiles.

These times are based on typical indoor environments (68°F, 65% humidity). In other climates, drying times may vary.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FULLY CURE?

Plan for about 24 hours for a complete cure, ensuring the area can be used or finished without issues.

WHAT’S THE BEST TOOL FOR APPLYING THIS ADHESIVE?

For best results, use a short-nap velour roller. It spreads the adhesive evenly in a thin coat, ensuring a long-lasting bond.

WHAT’S THE TYPICAL CONSUMPTION RATE?

Expect to use about 150–250 g/m² when working with cork. That means a 2.5 kg container covers roughly 135 sq. ft.

HOW SHOULD THE SURFACE BE PREPARED?

The base must be smooth, dry, and clean – no dust, oil, wax, or dirt.
Cork needs an even surface. Rough or uneven spots should be corrected with a cement-based compound.
On substrates like anhydrite, magnesite, or poured asphalt, a minimum 2 mm leveling layer is required.
Uneven plaster walls should also be patched before bonding.
Only start once the primer has dried completely.

WHAT TEMPERATURE IS IDEAL FOR APPLICATION?

Apply Wakol D-3540 only when the substrate is above 59°F and the room temperature is at least 64°F. Standard indoor temperatures are ideal for curing.

If stored in a cold location, let the container warm up before use.

HOW TO APPLY WAKOL D3540 STEP BY STEP?

Prepare the adhesive: Stir thoroughly before use.
Spread it evenly: Apply to both cork and substrate in a thin, continuous coat.
Allow to dry: Wait until the film turns transparent.
Bond the cork: Position and press firmly (a rubber mallet can help).

Reminder: natural cork should not be sealed or varnished until 24 hours after installation.

CAN CORK PANELS BE INSTALLED ON CEILINGS?

Yes, Wakol D-3540 is perfectly suited for ceiling applications. It creates a strong hold, making it ideal for decorative and insulating cork ceiling finishes.

Just ensure the surface is well-prepared and press panels firmly after drying time.

IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING?

Yes, Wakol D-3540 works great with heated floor systems.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE RESIDUE?

While wet, residue can be wiped away with water. Once dry, it’s very hard to remove, so clean up immediately.

HOW SHOULD THE PRODUCT BE STORED?

Always keep it in the original container, tightly sealed, in a cool, dry location. Freezing will ruin the adhesive permanently.

Stored properly, it maintains full quality for 12 months after production.

DOES WAKOL D-3540 HAVE A SMELL?

Yes, there is a noticeable odor, but since it’s solvent-free and low in emissions, it’s much milder than traditional solvent-based glues.
