Got questions? We’ve got answers.
WHAT IS EXPANDED CORK?
Expanded cork is a high-performance insulating material that locks in warmth while also offering excellent sound absorption. It’s produced by heating cork granules above 350°C, which causes them to expand. The process releases suberin, a natural binding agent that gives cork its unique structure. This expanded volume traps more air, which is essential for efficient insulation.
HOW IS THE LAMBOURDE PANEL DIFFERENT?
Unlike regular cork panels, the Lambourde version comes pre-attached with two OSB mounting battens along its length. This speeds up wall installation by providing secure, ready-made fixing points—no need for extra supports.
IS CORK A BETTER OPTION THAN STYROFOAM OR MINERAL WOOL?
Styrofoam is fragile and not eco-friendly. Mineral wool can cause skin and respiratory irritation. Expanded cork, on the other hand, is natural, biodegradable, and hypoallergenic. It’s also more resistant to physical damage, making it a sustainable and health-conscious choice for your home.
CAN THIS PANEL BE USED TO INSULATE WALLS?
Absolutely. Expanded cork panels serve as effective thermal barriers that reduce heat flow through walls. Thanks to their closed-cell structure, they trap millions of air pockets that help keep rooms comfortable year-round.
DOES CORK HELP REDUCE NOISE?
The Lambourde cork panel offers reliable acoustic performance thanks to its porous cellular design. Each air-filled cell acts like a tiny noise buffer, absorbing and diffusing sound waves. For additional noise control, consider installing a double layer of drywall.
WHAT CAN YOU PAIR IT WITH?
Drywall panels work seamlessly with the Lambourde cork panel. You can screw them directly into the OSB battens. These panels are also great for improving sound insulation on pre-existing lightweight partition walls.
SHOULD THE PANELS BE ACCLIMATED?
Yes, it’s important to let the panels acclimate for about 72 hours in the room where they’ll be installed. Skipping this step may cause the cork to shrink or crack later on, leading to reinstallation costs. Take your time upfront to save effort down the line.
WHAT’S THE INSTALLATION PROCESS?
Start with a clean wall surface to ensure proper adhesion. Mount the Lambourde panel using quick-install wall plugs. You’ll need two plugs per OSB batten, spaced about 200 mm from each end. When adding drywall, screw directly into the battens, keeping screw spacing within 600 mm.
If the wall is uneven or has hidden wires, use Omega metal profiles installed vertically (no more than 600 mm apart) with horizontal connectors at the top and bottom for added stability.
To maximize sound insulation, mount two offset layers of drywall so the seams don’t align. This setup disrupts sound pathways and improves acoustic performance.
WHAT THICKNESS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
40 mm panels are ideal for wall insulation. For improved thermal and acoustic performance, go with 50 mm or 60 mm. Thicker panels offer better results, but the right choice depends on your specific space. Not sure what to get? Reach out and we’ll help you pick the perfect fit!
Most traditional insulation materials force a tough decision: eco-consciousness or performance? With expanded cork, you can finally have both. This all-natural solution not only protects the planet but also delivers exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation, giving you a cozy home environment year-round.

#1 ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEETS COMFORT
Experience noticeable change with Lambourde expanded cork panels. Your home will maintain a consistent indoor temperature in every season while also slashing energy costs. With a thermal conductivity rating of just 0.037 to 0.040 W/mK, this cork solution helps you retain heat during chilly winters and stay cool during summer heatwaves.
Natural cork also excels at sound absorption, making your living space more peaceful. With up to 59 dB of noise reduction, it’s easier to relax, focus, or simply enjoy quiet family time without distractions.
#2 BUILT TO LAST – DECADE AFTER DECADE
Durability is key when it comes to home investments – and expanded cork delivers. These panels maintain their insulating and structural qualities for up to 50 years. Even after years of use, they remain highly effective at reducing sound and resisting moisture, wear, and decay.
Choosing Lambourde cork means choosing a long-term solution that doesn’t just work — it thrives under the demands of everyday life, year after year.
#3 EARTH-FRIENDLY, INSIDE AND OUT
Expanded cork is a 100% organic material that supports both your home and the planet. It’s completely recyclable and sustainable, even after decades of use. By incorporating cork into your space, you take a proactive step toward reducing environmental harm and promoting green living.
The cork harvesting process is a model of sustainability: Every 9 to 12 years, bark is carefully removed from cork oaks without harming the trees. These trees naturally regenerate their bark, allowing them to be harvested repeatedly — for over 200 years in some cases.
#4 SAFE, CLEAN & CHEMICAL-FREE
Expanded cork insulation emits zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — meaning no toxic fumes, no headaches, and no harm to your respiratory system or nervous health.
By choosing cork, you’re ensuring a healthier living space. It's also naturally resistant to insects and rodents, keeping your home quiet, hygienic, and safe — without the need for harsh pesticides or traps.
