WHAT IS A “FLOATING” CORK FLOOR?

A floating cork floor is a cork surface that doesn’t require glue. With the Corkloc click system, each panel simply locks into place, giving you a fast and mess-free installation.

FLOATING VS. GLUED-DOWN – WHICH ONE SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Floating floors are best if you want a hassle-free installation and the flexibility to rearrange or remove the floor later.

 

Glued cork floors are the right choice if you need extra durability in high-traffic areas like hallways, commercial spaces, or busy living rooms.

HOW DO I INSTALL CORK FLOORING PANELS?

Installing cork panels is straightforward. Here’s how:

 
  1. Prep the subfloor: Make sure it’s level, dry, and clean.
  2. Add a PE underlayment: Lay down at least 0.2 mm thick polyethylene sheeting for moisture protection and added insulation. Overlap seams by 8 inches and allow a 2-inch edge up the wall.
  3. Pick your starting point: Begin in a corner, ideally near the main light source.
  4. Leave expansion gaps: Keep a 3/8-inch gap between panels and walls or fixed objects to allow for natural movement.
  5. Click panels together: Position the first panel tongue-side to the wall, angle the next one in, and click it down. Continue row by row.
  6. Stagger rows: Use leftover pieces to start new rows and stagger seams by at least 12 inches.
  7. Finishing row: Trim panels to fit, keeping the expansion space intact.

DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATE THE FLOOR BEFORE INSTALLATION?

Yes. Store the panels in the installation room for at least 72 hours to let them adjust to the environment before laying them down.

WHAT SURFACES CAN A FLOATING CORK FLOOR BE INSTALLED ON?

Cork floating floors can be laid over most solid surfaces, including concrete, wood, vinyl, and tile. Always use a PE underlayment for moisture protection. No need to remove the old floor!

CAN I INSTALL IT OVER STYROFOAM INSULATION?

Not recommended. Styrofoam lacks the stability needed for proper support and may cause uneven weight distribution.

IS CORK FLOORING SUITABLE FOR BATHROOMS?

Because of panel construction, we don’t recommend cork flooring in bathrooms. It performs best in dry indoor spaces.

CAN I USE IT ON A BALCONY OR OUTDOOR SPACE?

No. Cork flooring is designed for indoor use only. Outdoor weather and temperature shifts can damage the material.

IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH RADIANT HEATING?

Yes, floating cork floors work with hydronic radiant heating systems. They spread warmth evenly and boost energy efficiency.

 

Note: Not recommended for electric radiant heating, since rapid temperature changes may harm the cork.

HOW DO I CLEAN AND MAINTAIN CORK FLOORS?

Cork is low-maintenance. Sweep regularly and mop with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners. For added protection, use our special cork care products.

ARE CORK FLOORS PET-FRIENDLY?

Absolutely! Cork is warm and comfortable underfoot, easy to keep clean, and perfect for households with cats or dogs.
