Got questions? Here are the answers homeowners ask most often.
HOW IS FAÇADE MD EXPANDED CORK PRODUCED?
The process is similar to making popcorn. Natural cork is heated and pressurized, causing the cells to expand and trap additional air. These air pockets give cork boards their superior insulation performance, keeping warmth in while reducing outside noise.
WHY IS EXPANDED CORK A SMARTER ALTERNATIVE THAN
TRADITIONAL MATERIALS?
Unlike common insulation products such as polystyrene or mineral wool, cork offers clear advantages. Mineral wool can release fine fibers that may affect indoor air quality. Expanded cork, on the other hand, is safe, renewable, and fully biodegradable, making it a greener option than polystyrene for a sustainable exterior.
IS EXPANDED CORK SUITABLE FOR EXTERIOR WALL INSULATION?
Absolutely. Expanded cork is an excellent choice for exterior façades. With its higher density of 130–140 kg/m³ (compared to 110–120 kg/m³ for standard cork), it delivers better thermal insulation and stronger resistance against heat loss and weather extremes – ideal for American homes across diverse climates.
HOW DO YOU CUT EXPANDED CORK BOARDS?
Cork panels are easy to work with – simply cut them using a hand saw, circular saw, or jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade.
WHAT ADHESIVE SHOULD BE USED FOR INSTALLING CORK ON A FACADE?
The best choice is the specialized cork adhesive Wakol D-3540. For each board, plan on about 100 grams of adhesive. A small 0.8 kg container covers roughly 8 boards, while a larger 2.5 kg bucket is enough for about 25 boards.
IS A CORK FACADE PRACTICAL IN THE U.S. CLIMATE?
Yes. Expanded cork handles a wide range of weather conditions, from cold winters to hot summers. Its thermal and acoustic benefits mean your home stays warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and quieter year-round – perfect for both suburban and urban environments.
DOES A CORK FACADE REQUIRE SPECIAL MAINTENANCE?
No – cork façades are low-maintenance. Regularly wash off dirt with mild soap and water to preserve its natural look and performance over time.
CAN EXPANDED CORK BE PAINTED A DIFFERENT COLOR?
Yes, expanded cork can be painted using coatings formulated for natural cork. Want to refresh the look of your home? High-quality exterior paints also work well. Just remember: achieving an even coat on a textured surface like cork takes a little extra care.
Choosing a natural cork façade means you’re not only giving your home timeless beauty and durability, but also making an environmentally conscious decision. Enjoy peace of mind, knowing that your choice of cork insulation supports a healthier planet for the future.
Expanded cork and cork façades are smart solutions that make you feel good, because you’re caring for yourself, your family, and the entire planet.

#1 A NATURAL CHOICE FOR YOUR HOME
The MD expanded cork façade isn’t just another construction product – it’s a commitment to sustainable living. Its organic structure not only improves the aesthetics of your exterior walls but also makes your home greener and more eco-friendly.
Natural cork is harvested from the cork oak, a tree native mainly to Mediterranean regions. The process is highly sustainable because no trees need to be cut down. Instead, the bark is carefully removed every 9 to 12 years, allowing the tree to continue growing and regenerating naturally.
#2 SUPERIOR THERMAL AND ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE
Expanded cork is the ultimate façade solution for your house. Millions of tiny air-filled cells provide natural insulation, keeping your home warm in the winter and quiet year-round. Thanks to its unique cellular structure, cork helps balance indoor temperatures while minimizing outside noise.
With a low thermal conductivity of λ 0.043 W/mK, you can count on reduced heat loss, long-term energy savings, and greater comfort for your home.
#3 IDEAL DENSITY FOR A CUSTOMIZED FACADE
MD products, which stand for Medium Density, strike the perfect balance between lightweight and high-density materials, ranging from 130 to 140 kg/m³. This makes expanded cork façades both durable and lightweight. An MD cork façade delivers a strong, attractive exterior finish that’s built to last.
#4 A SAFE AND LONG-LASTING INVESTMENT
An MD cork façade is not only valued for its strength but also for its longevity. Expanded cork can last up to 50 years, and over time it develops an attractive natural patina that enhances your home’s appearance.
Expanded cork is naturally resistant to pests, insects, chemicals, mold, and mildew. Its cellular structure contains suberin, a substance that repels moisture, ensuring your façade remains protected against water damage and fungal growth.
On top of that, cork is a flame-retardant material, able to withstand temperatures from -180°F to +248°F. It doesn’t release toxic gases if exposed to fire. Certified under EN 13170 + EN 13172 standards, cork façades meet high safety and quality requirements.
#5 STYLE AND SAVINGS – THE PERFECT MATCH
Expanded cork is the key to lowering energy costs while giving your home a distinctive, natural look. Our cork panels, a trusted choice for exterior walls, are an investment that pays off many times over.
Thanks to its excellent insulating properties, reduced energy consumption, and long-term building protection, cork insulation offers substantial savings. A cork façade is simply worth it.
