6mm

Planning to make a large bulletin board but not sure which material will work best? Cork that's too thin may not provide enough durability, while an overly thick material can be difficult to cut, position, and work with. Choosing the wrong thickness can turn a simple DIY project into an unnecessary hassle and leave you disappointed with the final result. Based on our years of experience, we recommend a practical option that strikes the right balance: a 6mm cork roll.

Have questions? Here are the answers you need.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO INSTALL A 6MM CORK ROLL ON A WALL?

A proper installation starts with the right adhesive. For reliable results, we recommend Wakol D-3540 cork adhesive, a product we have personally tested and trust. Typical coverage requires about 150-250 g/m² of adhesive. A 0.8 kg container is enough for approximately 4 m², while a 2.5 kg container will cover roughly 12.5 m².

  1. Get the wall ready by checking that the entire surface is clean, dry, smooth, and even.

  2. Apply the adhesive to both surfaces – the wall and the back of the cork roll.

  3. Wait until the adhesive turns transparent. Once it does, the cork is ready to be bonded to the wall.

  4. Position the natural cork and press it firmly into place, smoothing it out as you move across the wall.

  5. Give the adhesive enough time to set. Wakol takes approximately 24 hours to cure completely.

WHAT SHOULD I USE TO CUT A 6MM CORK ROLL?

You don't need specialized equipment to cut cork roll. A sharp cork-cutting knife or a sturdy pair of scissors will get the job done. The key is to use a very sharp cutting edge, which helps produce clean, precise cuts without leaving frayed or ragged edges.

ARE SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLLS AVAILABLE FOR WALLS?

Absolutely! We also carry self-adhesive cork rolls designed for wall applications. They are a convenient alternative when you want to simplify your project and skip the process of applying a separate traditional adhesive.

Surface preparation still matters. The self-adhesive backing provides the strongest bond on smooth, flat, clean, and dust-free surfaces. Drywall and furniture panels are good examples of suitable surfaces.

A 6mm cork roll is an excellent choice for turning a large wall area into a functional cork board. You can even use it to cover an entire wall, creating plenty of room for notes, photos, schedules, project ideas, or anything else you want to keep visible and within reach. Compared with individual cork sheets, roll material also helps minimize the number of visible seams across larger surfaces. The result is a cleaner, more continuous-looking cork wall. If you plan to use push pins, simply mount the natural cork over a suitable backing material, such as fiberboard.

Natural cork is hypoallergenic and safe for everyday use, which can be an important advantage over some other materials. It can contribute to a cleaner indoor environment and may help reduce issues associated with airborne allergens.

Sustainability is another reason to consider natural cork. The harvested bark can be used very efficiently, so very little of the raw material goes to waste. Cork bark that isn't made into wine stoppers can be repurposed for many other products – including flooring, insulation, and even fashion accessories. Nearly every part of the material can be put to practical use.
