WHY CHOOSE HOLZPROF FOR WOOD AND CORK?

This fire-retardant formula penetrates the cork and works to slow down and limit ignition. That means flames move more gradually, giving you valuable extra time to respond in case of a fire.

WHAT SURFACES CAN HOLZPROF TREAT?

It can be applied to wood and other cellulose-based surfaces – including cork. Because it’s water-based, it won’t change the natural appearance or feel of the material.

Note: the product is only effective on absorbent surfaces. If the cork has been painted or sealed previously, the treatment cannot penetrate and won’t be effective.

WHAT SAFETY TIPS SHOULD I FOLLOW?

Always wear protective gloves and safety glasses, and make sure your workspace is well ventilated. If spraying, use a mask with a P3 filter. These steps keep the job both safe and hassle-free. And remember — follow the manufacturer’s guidelines closely.

HOW SHOULD CORK BE PREPARED BEFORE APPLICATION?

The cork surface must be dry, clean, degreased, and free from dust, dirt, stains, or adhesive residue.

Keep in mind: cork that’s been painted, varnished, or coated with any protective finish will not absorb the solution properly. Only untreated cork ensures full fire protection.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO APPLY HOLZPROF?

  • Apply with a roller, brush, by soaking, or – when available – with a vacuum-pressure method. No matter the method, make sure all sides of the cork are covered.
  • Cork should ideally have a moisture content of about 16%, with a maximum of 18%. Don’t apply to frozen or icy material.
  • Apply in three coats, allowing 40–60 minutes between each one. Total coverage should reach at least 300 g/m² (270 ml/m²), and for denser woods like Canadian WRC cedar, no less than 360 ml/m². The product needs to soak in 1.5–3 mm deep to provide effective protection. Recommended application temperature is +50–86°F (minimum +41°F), with humidity below 75%.
  • Complete fire protection develops after 7 days (under ideal conditions – around 68°F and humidity below 75%). Keep the cork away from direct sun and rain during drying.

WHAT’S THE RIGHT WAY TO STORE HOLZPROF?

Always keep the product in its original, sealed container, stored in a cool, dry place with proper ventilation. Ideal storage temperature is between +41°F and +77°F. Do not allow the liquid to freeze.

Shelf life: up to 24 months from the production date.

Looking for a way to keep cork protected without getting stuck with complicated solutions? Too many products out there require mixing, special tools, and long prep time – which makes it easy to put the job off. HolzProf is a ready-to-use fire protection treatment for cork – quick to apply, hassle-free, and no expertise required.

Black text WHY choose it? Cork on the right, white background.

#1 STRONGER FIRE PROTECTION

Cork naturally resists flames to some degree – instead of catching fire, it usually chars. Still, in real-world situations that’s not always enough. That’s why added protection matters.

HolzProf is tested to EN 13501-1 standards and achieves fire rating B-s1,d0. In plain terms: it barely spreads fire, produces very little smoke, and won’t drip burning particles or sparks.

#2 EASY APPLICATION

No mixing, no thinning – the formula is ready straight from the bottle. That means you can get the job done faster with less hassle. Its liquid consistency soaks into cork, protecting not just the surface but also the inner layers. That’s important, because safety isn’t only skin deep.

Even better, the entire process can be handled DIY-style. Applying it feels as natural as painting – simple, intuitive, and no special training needed. The difference? Instead of changing color, you’re giving cork lasting fire resistance.
