WHY USE HOLZPROF TO PROTECT CORK?
HolzProf penetrates the cork and slows down the ignition process while also reducing flame intensity. This means fire spreads more gradually, giving you valuable time to respond in an emergency.
WHAT SURFACES IS HOLZPROF SUITABLE FOR?
It’s designed for wood and other cellulose-based materials, including cork. Because it’s water-based, it won’t change the natural appearance, feel, or texture of the surface.
Note: HolzProf works only on porous surfaces. If cork has been painted, sealed, or coated, the product can’t be absorbed and therefore won’t provide fire protection.
WHAT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE?
Always wear protective gloves and safety glasses, and make sure the space is well-ventilated. If spraying, use a respirator with a P3 filter. This ensures safe, comfortable use. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines carefully for best results.
HOW SHOULD I PREP THE CORK BEFORE APPLICATION?
Check that the surface is dry, clean, free of grease, and has no dust, stains, dirt, or glue residue.
Remember: the treatment works only on untreated cork. Avoid applying to surfaces that are painted, varnished, or sealed.
WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO APPLY HOLZPROF?
- Apply with a roller, brush, by dipping, or – if you have the proper setup – with a vacuum-pressure system. Make sure all sides of the cork are fully treated.
- The ideal moisture content of cork is about 16% and should not exceed 18%. Do not apply on frozen or icy surfaces.
- Apply in three coats, waiting 40–60 minutes between each layer. Use at least 300 g/m² (270 ml/m²). For denser woods like Canadian WRC cedar, apply at least 360 ml/m². The solution needs to penetrate 1.5–3 mm into the cork for effective protection. Best applied at +50–86°F (minimum +41°F), with humidity under 75%.
- The cork reaches full fire resistance after 7 days under proper conditions (around 68°F and humidity below 75%). During curing, keep it away from direct sunlight and moisture.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE HOLZPROF?
Store HolzProf in its original, tightly sealed container, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Ideal storage temperature: +41°F to +77°F. Do not allow the product to freeze.
The product remains effective for up to 24 months from the date of manufacture.
Want to protect your cork but tired of products that make the job feel complicated? Many treatments require mixing, measuring, special gear, and way too much prep – which usually means the project never gets done. HolzProf changes that: it’s ready straight out of the container, simple to use, quick to apply, and perfect even if it’s your very first time.

#1 UPGRADED FIRE PROTECTION
Cork naturally resists flames – it tends to char slowly instead of going up in a flash. But in some environments, that alone isn’t enough and extra protection is the smart move.
HolzProf has been independently tested under EN 13501-1 standards and earned a B-s1,d0 fire rating. Translation? Flames barely spread, smoke stays minimal, and there are no flaming particles or dripping residue.
#2 HASSLE-FREE APPLICATION
Skip the complicated steps – this solution is ready to go. Application is quick and straightforward. Its liquid formula soaks into the cork, protecting it not just on the surface but throughout the material itself. That’s what delivers lasting peace of mind.
Even better, you don’t need a contractor: you can apply it yourself. Think of it like painting – smooth, simple, and no technical skills required. The only thing you’ll notice is improved fire safety, not a change in the cork’s look.
#3 WATER-BASED & FAMILY-SAFE
Choosing a water-based fire retardant is a smarter, healthier option. You avoid harsh chemical smells and reduce exposure to toxic fumes. It’s safer to handle and far more comfortable to use indoors.
Another bonus? Cleanup is incredibly easy. Whether you used a brush, roller, or sprayer, just rinse everything under tap water – no chemicals, no complicated cleanup routine.
