WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WITH NATURAL CORK BEFORE INSTALLATION?

  1. Transport and storage: Always store cork panels flat in a horizontal position. Keeping them properly supported helps protect the material from bending, warping, or accidental damage before installation.
  2. Let the panels acclimate: Don't skip this step! Place the cork panels in the room where they will be installed and leave them there for 72 hours before starting the project. This gives the material time to adjust to the room's temperature and humidity. Proper acclimation helps reduce the chance of the panels warping or separating from the wall later on.

HOW DO YOU GET THE WALL READY FOR CORK PANELS?

  1. Start with a clean surface: Before installing the panels, thoroughly remove dust, grease, and any other residue from the wall. A clean surface is essential for proper adhesive performance. If you're working with a porous or absorbent surface such as concrete, plaster, or brick, apply a suitable primer first. Priming reduces excessive absorption and helps the adhesive create a stronger, more reliable bond for long-lasting results.
  2. Fix bumps and uneven areas: Inspect the entire wall for dips, raised spots, or other noticeable imperfections. Use an appropriate patching or leveling compound to smooth out any problem areas. The flatter and smoother the wall is, the easier it will be to achieve a clean, professional-looking installation. 

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO INSTALL DECORATIVE CORK ON A WALL?

  1. Select the proper adhesive: Use a contact adhesive designed for cork applications. Wakol D-3540 – a specialty cork adhesive – is the preferred option. Plan on using approximately 150 to 250 g/m². A 0.8 kg container covers roughly 4 m², while a 2.5 kg container provides enough adhesive for approximately 12.5 m².
  2. Spread the adhesive evenly: Using a short-nap velour roller, apply an even layer of adhesive to both the wall and the back of each cork panel. Consistent coverage helps prevent thick spots, clumps, and uneven bonding.
  3. Allow the adhesive to set: Wait approximately 10–20 minutes after application. Once the adhesive turns transparent, it's ready for the panels to be installed.
  4. Attach the panels: Carefully position each panel, then press it gently but firmly against the wall to create good contact with the adhesive.
  5. Give the adhesive time to cure: After installation, leave the panels undisturbed for 24 hours so the adhesive can dry completely and develop a secure bond.

CAN CORK WALL PANELS BE INSTALLED OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE?

Installing cork panels on an uneven wall is not recommended. Irregularities in the surface can reduce the amount of contact between the adhesive, the cork, and the wall. This may weaken the bond and cause sections of the panels to loosen over time. For the most durable and attractive result, install cork on a flat and smooth surface.

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SEE THE SEAMS BETWEEN CORK PANELS?

The seams where individual cork panels meet may remain slightly visible after installation. Allowing the panels to acclimate in the installation room for 72 hours helps minimize dimensional changes that could create small gaps later. Very fine seam lines may still be noticeable in some areas. This is normal and reflects the natural character of cork rather than a defect in the material.

WHAT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO CLEAN AND CARE FOR CORK WALL PANELS?

Cork wall panels are low-maintenance and don't require frequent cleaning. For everyday dust and light dirt, simply wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth or use a soft-bristled duster. If you need to remove a more stubborn spot, choose a mild cleaning product that won't damage the cork.

Important! Avoid harsh chemicals such as acetone, chlorine, or bleach – these products can damage the cork surface.
