WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING DECORATIVE CORK?

Before installation, give the cork panels enough time to adjust to the conditions in the room. Leave them in the installation area for 72 hours to acclimate before attaching them to the wall. This allows the natural material to adapt to the room’s temperature and humidity and helps reduce the risk of problems such as panels loosening after installation.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO INSTALL DECORATIVE CORK PANELS ON A WALL?

  • For bonding decorative cork to the wall, we recommend Wakol D-3540 contact adhesive based on our own experience with the product. Plan on using approximately 150–250 g/m². A 0.8 kg container covers roughly 4 m², while a 2.5 kg container is enough for approximately 12.5 m².
  • Spread the adhesive evenly over both the wall and the back of each Bali panel. A short-nap velour roller works well for creating a consistent adhesive layer.
  • Do not attach the panels immediately after applying the adhesive. Wait until the adhesive becomes transparent on both surfaces. Once it is ready, position each panel carefully and press it gently but firmly against the wall.
  • After installation, allow approximately 24 hours for the adhesive to dry.

DO DECORATIVE CORK WALL PANELS HELP WITH INSULATION?

Bali panels are designed primarily as a decorative wall finish rather than a dedicated insulation product. However, natural cork has a naturally warm feel. As a result, a wall finished with cork panels tends to feel less cold to the touch than surfaces such as tile, concrete, or stone.

If your main goal is improved thermal and sound insulation, consider using thicker cork boards or expanded cork instead, as these options are better suited for insulation applications.

CAN DECORATIVE CORK BE INSTALLED OVER AN UNEVEN WALL?

No. For reliable adhesion, decorative cork should be installed on a surface that is smooth, clean, and level as well as free of dust. Applying the panels to a rough or uneven wall can interfere with the adhesive bond and may cause the cork panels to loosen over time.

WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE SEAMS BETWEEN THE CORK PANELS?

The seams between individual panels may remain slightly visible. Allowing the decorative cork to acclimate for 72 hours in the room where it will be installed significantly reduces the likelihood of gaps developing between the panels. Keep in mind, however, that subtle visible seams are a normal characteristic of natural cork and are part of its distinctive appearance.

HOW DO I PREPARE THE WALL BEFORE INSTALLING CORK PANELS?

Proper surface preparation is essential for a strong adhesive bond. Start by thoroughly removing dust, grease, and dirt from the wall. Fill and smooth any uneven areas with an appropriate filler so the installation surface is as level as possible. Highly absorbent surfaces, including concrete, should be primed before installation to help the adhesive bond properly.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN AND CARE FOR BALI CORK WALL PANELS?

Routine maintenance is simple. Use a slightly damp cloth or a soft brush to clean the cork surface – this is usually all that is needed for everyday dust and dirt. For more persistent stains, use a mild cleaning product. Avoid harsh chemicals such as acetone or bleach, as they may damage both the appearance and the natural structure of the cork.

Bali is not designed to produce a perfectly smooth or completely uniform wall. Instead, its pronounced texture adds visual depth and dimension. As daylight shifts or you view the surface from a different angle, new details and variations become more noticeable.

 

Because cork is a natural material, its pattern is never perfectly identical from one section to the next. Slight variations are part of what makes the finished surface unique. Rather than looking like a printed design that repeats every few inches, the wall maintains the authentic character of natural cork.
