WHAT TYPES OF FLOORING ARE COMPATIBLE WITH RUBBER CORK UNDERLAY?

Rubber cork underlay can be used under many flooring types: laminate, parquet, hardwood, carpet, PVC, linoleum, natural stone, or ceramic tiles. It’s especially great for glued-down floors, where you need solid soundproofing and thermal benefits.

It’s perfectly compatible with hydronic (water-based) radiant heating systems, offering even heat distribution and added comfort. However, steer clear of electric floor heating systems—they may degrade the cork structure over time.

HOW IS RUBBER CORK DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR CORK UNDERLAY?

Rubber cork underlay combines cork and rubber granules bonded with a polyurethane adhesive. This composition makes it a stronger, more flexible option than standard cork. It handles stress better and provides superior sound and heat insulation—ideal for uneven or demanding subfloors.

WHAT KIND OF THERMAL PERFORMANCE DOES IT OFFER?

DOES IT HELP WITH NOISE REDUCTION?

HOW SHOULD THE SUBFLOOR BE PREPARED?

Before installation, make sure the subfloor is clean, level, and dry. Moisture content should not exceed 2.5%, indoor temperatures should be above 50°F (10°C), and humidity should stay under 75%.

WHAT’S THE RIGHT WAY TO INSTALL IT?

 
  1. Let it adjust: Unbox and allow the underlay to acclimate in the room for at least 24 hours.
  2. Measure & cut: Trim the rolls to fit the space, leaving a 1" gap around the edges. Roll the strips back up before gluing.
  3. Apply adhesive: Use a cork-appropriate glue like Wakol D3540. Spread it with a notched trowel (B1/B2). Wait for the glue to turn transparent—it’s then ready.
  4. Lay it down: Unroll each strip carefully, press firmly, and use a roller to eliminate air bubbles. Edges should sit flush together.
  5. Finish with flooring: Let the underlay cure for 24–48 hours before installing your final flooring. Always follow your glue manufacturer’s recommendations.
 

Note: Don’t use screws, nails, or other mechanical fasteners—they can compromise insulation. Stick strictly to adhesive guidelines for the best long-term results.

The underlay has a density of about 650 kg/m³ (as specified by the ISO 7322 standard).
